Essential Oil Calculator Updates (September 2017)

By Kenna

Since the last update, about a third of the traffic to the EO Calculator has been referral traffic from social media sharing, which means more soapmakers are finding their way to the EO Calc, hurray! Thank you to all the lovelies who use the calculator, share it with others, and support the project. Please keep sharing and letting people know about it – the more, the merrier!

Upcoming Updates

New essential oils will be added to the calculator on the next update! Make sure to vote for new additions. We’ll be adding a minimum of three new essential oils.

We’ll also be adding the ability to comment on blends to leave reviews or performance notes in a variety of products. Not all the blends on the calculator can be safely used in all product types, and some will accelerate trace in soapmaking or change during saponification. Thanks to Mike (www.nebees.com) for the suggestion on the last update.

Changes & Updates

  • Updated the FAQ to add information about calculating usage rates for soap products (CP and HP), the formula amount should be the oil amount only – not the total of water, lye, and oil – as the water largely evaporates during cure (previously only noted on the Calculate Usage Rate page)
  • Updated featured blends to highlight some fall and winter blends
  • Updated some core functionality for better compatibility cross browser
  • Added social sharing buttons to make it easier to pin blends on Pinterest (most blends have a Pin graphic that will self-fill) and other social media networks

I’d like to start a soaping company but this is all new to me.
